Pet Therapy Dog Program
Our Pet Therapy Dog Program could not operate without dedicated volunteers –
they are our backbone and primary source of support.
Volunteers take their good-natured dogs to many facilities across Adelaide including aged care facilities, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, disability and service the general public.
The aim of the program is to help improve the wellbeing of patients, residents and their families through positive contact with visiting volunteers and their dogs.

Volunteer positions are available in the Utilization of dogs as therapeutic tools, to facilitate healing and rehabilitation of clients, patients with acute or chronic diseases
Both adults and young adults are welcome!

Are you able to volunteer up to 1 1/2 hours a week, fortnight, or monthly for facility visitations?

Would you like to make a difference in someones life by providing visitations with your dog to make someones day?
Are you empathetic toward the general public or those whom live with acute illness, disability and ageing population.
Would you like to volunteer with a reputable SA Not-For-Profit organisation. Registered Australian Charity.

Therapeutic Dog Services Incorporated will make every effort to appoint Volunteer Visiting Teams to a Care Centre located as conveniently as possible to their home.
Community Visiting Dogs and Handlers
Becoming a member of Therapeutic Dog Services Inc. begins with supplying the information requested for consideration.
(Once you have submitted an application you will receive an email or phone call from a representative to organise an evaluation day/date for you and your dog.)
You will be required to complete 5 hours of online training, 3 hours of classroom training.
& STAGE 5
We look for volunteers who are willing to visit regularly with their dogs, ideally for at least
6 months - 1 year or more.
To become a visiting volunteer applicants are required to:
provide veterinary health clearance, supply a copy of dog vaccination
pass an assessment with their dog,
complete online training
attend a half day training seminar without their dog.

Community Visiting Dog Teams (Volunteering)
If you would like to go visiting with your dog as a registered team, the registration fee is $50.00 for the first year (includes online training, 3 hour in classroom training, (Polo shirt is optional $35.00), insurance inclusion, industry partner placement, support and supervision) and $50.00.00 each year there after.
The Community Dog Visiting Team Program is the Utilisation of dogs as therapeutic tools, to facilitate healing and rehabilitation of clients, patients with acute or chronic diseases through meet and greet programs
To become a volunteer Community Dog Visiting Team within our Support Service – you’ll need to undertake training, make a commitment to shifts and meet further selection criteria. This is to ensure you’ll be confident, skilled and able to provide support to Therapeutic Dog Services clients and industry partner facilities.
If you are interested, this type of volunteering will be very rewarding.
Volunteer Community Dogs and Handler Criteria
Dog Training: Basic training ( Dog requires basic obedience)
Veterinarian Health Clearance: A Veterianarian health care clearance will be required for your dog, we supply the forms for you to have your regular veterinarian to conduct a temperament test, health check, and record vaccinations and any other requirements recommended by the veterinarian.
Vaccinated: Your dog must be up to date with yearly required vaccinations (C5)
Temperament Tested: Requirement: Dogs are temperament tested by an Therapeutic Dog Services AAI evaluator (Fee $20.00) prior to being considered for the community dog visiting program.
Working conditions: Weekly or fortnightly visitations conducted for up to 1 1/2 hours per session at various external joint partner sites.
Insurance: covered by Therapeutic Dog Services $20M Comprehensive Insurance, General Liability $20M, and Volunteers Insurance.
Training: Volunteers are required to complete Compulsory and Professional Development training courses.
Police Clearance: each and every volunteer/staff member is required to hold a current police clearance certificate. (We provide forms to you, there is no cost to you for police clearances)
